Pramac Yamaha are on the brink of finalising Izan Guevara as one of their two MotoGP riders for 2027, in a deal that comes with a contract clause that could force the satellite team to make an early call on Jack Miller's future as soon as the Catalan Grand Prix test on Monday.
The deal has been moving in plain sight for weeks. As far back as April, motogpnews reported Guevara's 2027 promotion was "practically certain", and Yamaha have not been quiet about why. The Iwata factory's young rider scouts privately compare the 2003-born Spaniard to Fabio Quartararo at the same age, with views inside Yamaha rating Guevara as the kind of generational talent who could earn a factory M1 seat as early as 2028.
The complication sits on the other side of the Pramac garage. Miller, the Australian veteran who returned to the brand for 2026 after his year on the satellite Yamaha, is on a one-year contract with team-issued performance triggers. According to motogpnews, a clause in Guevara's deal entitles the Spaniard to start his Pramac Yamaha programme during the 2026 in-season test schedule if Miller fails to hit a specified pace target, with the clause becoming active immediately after the Catalan Grand Prix.
Miller addressed the situation only obliquely on Friday at Catalunya, where he delivered Pramac its first Q2 advance of the season by clipping Bezzecchi for ninth in combined practice. The Australian's pace has improved noticeably since the Yamaha aero update introduced at Jerez, and a sprint score this weekend would significantly weaken the case for an early swap.
The Guevara situation has also opened a side conversation about Senna Agius, the Australian Moto2 race winner whose Yamaha development contract has been increasingly mentioned alongside Miller's seat. Pramac have so far declined to confirm the second 2027 rider, and team boss Paolo Campinoti has made clear publicly that the satellite squad would not be making any in-season switches without compelling sporting reasons.
For Yamaha, Guevara's 2027 arrival is the centrepiece of a quiet rebuild. Quartararo signed a multi-year deal in 2025 that runs through to the end of the 2026 season's hard new rules cycle, but his renewal beyond 2027 is no longer guaranteed if the M1 stays a third-of-a-second off the Ducati and KTM benchmarks at most circuits. Guevara is the long-term insurance policy: the rider Yamaha hopes to develop into a factory pillar through a satellite apprenticeship, in the same template that delivered Quartararo to the brand from Petronas SRT.
What Guevara himself thinks of the Pramac promotion has not yet been broadcast in detail. The Spaniard, who races for Aspar Boscoscuro in Moto2 and has scored two podiums this season including a recent close miss at Jerez, has previously been measured in his comments. "We made some good lap times," he said after one recent race weekend, before adding only that he was looking for "tiny things" to improve.
The formal announcement is expected at one of the next two race weekends, with Catalan and Mugello pencilled in by the Italian press as the likely launch windows. If the Miller clause does activate, the most dramatic version of the story sees Guevara - currently slated to test the Pramac Yamaha on Monday at Catalunya in any case - moved to a race seat as soon as the post-summer Austrian Grand Prix in August.
