Ross Brawn, one of the most decorated figures in Formula 1 history, has made a surprise move into the world of grand prix motorcycle racing, joining the board of directors of MotoGP team Pramac Racing.

The 71-year-old Briton will serve as a non-executive board member and strategic advisor to Pramac team principal Paolo Campinoti, lending his vast competition experience to the Yamaha satellite squad. It marks Brawn's first venture into two-wheeled motorsport after a career that delivered 22 world championships across F1's grid.

"I'm delighted to join the board of Pramac Racing Limited in a non-executive role," Brawn said. "Motorsport has always been about people, teamwork and continuous improvement, and I look forward to supporting Paolo and the team and contributing where my experience may be useful."

Brawn's CV reads like a history of modern Formula 1 success. He masterminded title-winning cars at Benetton and Ferrari during Michael Schumacher's era of dominance, then led his own outfit, Brawn GP, to the 2009 drivers' and constructors' championships in one of the sport's great underdog stories. He went on to oversee the early years of the Mercedes works team before serving as F1's managing director for motorsports under Liberty Media between 2017 and 2022.

Now he turns that expertise to MotoGP, and to a Pramac organisation running Yamaha machinery and intent on climbing the order.

"Pramac has built an impressive organisation with a strong spirit and ambition, and I'm excited to be part of its future," Brawn added.

Campinoti framed the appointment as both a professional coup and a personal one.

"Beyond his extraordinary career and achievements in Formula 1, Ross is someone with whom I have shared a friendship and a relationship of great respect for many years," the team principal said. "I believe that his vision, knowledge and winning mentality will make a valuable contribution to the continued growth and development of Pramac."

While Brawn's role is advisory rather than hands-on, his arrival is a statement of intent from Pramac — and a notable crossover for a paddock that rarely sees Formula 1's biggest names switch codes. Few executives in any discipline can match his record for turning ambitious projects into champions, and the team is betting that some of that winning instinct will translate from four wheels to two.
