Martinius Stenshorne claimed victory in a disrupted FIA Formula 2 Feature Race at the Canadian Grand Prix, heading a Rodin Motorsport one-two from teammate Alex Dunne. Championship leader Gabriele Mini completed the podium for MP Motorsport after a stop-start contest at Montreal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on May 24.
Cool, rain-threatened conditions left the track surface slick and unforgiving. The race featured four Safety Car deployments and an additional Virtual Safety Car, and ultimately finished behind the Safety Car following yet another interruption late on.
The frequent cautions dominated proceedings and kept the field bunched, making track position and clean execution crucial. With restarts repeatedly neutralizing gaps, survival became as important as outright pace on a day when grip was at a premium.
Behind Stenshorne, Dunne secured second to deliver a 1-2 for Rodin, while Mini’s measured drive yielded third place for MP Motorsport. Nikola Tsolov took fourth for Campos Racing, with Sebastian Montoya fifth for Prema Racing and Cian Shields sixth for AIX Racing.
Nicolas Varrone finished seventh for Van Amersfoort Racing and earned the fastest lap bonus point. Campos Racing’s Noel Leon was eighth, Hitech’s Colton Herta ninth, and ART Grand Prix’s Kush Maini took the final point in tenth. Prema’s Mari Boya ended the day in 11th, just outside the points.
Post-race penalties reshaped the order. Joshua Dürksen and Roman Bilinski were each hit with 10-second time penalties after the chequered flag, dropping Dürksen from fourth to 12th and Bilinski from ninth to 13th. Their demotions elevated Tsolov into P4 and advanced several others into the points-paying positions.
Attrition was high: Rafael Camara (Invicta Racing), Ritomo Miyata (Hitech), Oliver Goethe (MP Motorsport), Dino Beganovic (DAMS Lucas Oil), Rafael Villagomez (Van Amersfoort Racing), John Bennett (Trident) and Emerson Fittipaldi Jr. (AIX Racing) were all classified as retirements. Laurens van Hoepen was listed as a withdrawal for Trident, while Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak was withdrawn earlier in the weekend on FIA medical advice after a crash at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
In terms of points, Stenshorne banked 25 for the win, Dunne 18, and Mini 15. Tsolov collected 12 points, Montoya 10, Shields 8, Varrone 7 including the fastest lap bonus, Leon 4, Herta 2 and Maini 1.
Rodin’s 1-2 underlined its composure amid relentless interruptions, while Mini’s podium maintained his strong campaign. Attention now turns to the next round, with teams and drivers seeking cleaner running after a bruising Montreal weekend.
